skyNET Australia is a company that runs a bbs. The company is a partnership of Matthew Simpson and Richard Swiderski. skyNet runs it's bulletin board system on a Macintosh IIvi 8/80/CD-ROM with an 100MB and a 240MB external hard disk and an external CD-ROM drive. In the CD-ROM drives are the DEMO Games CD and BBS In a Box (Latest Version).
skyNET Australia is on many networks that are connected around the world. Amoungst these networks are the huge file and message transferral system called Internet, also Fidonet, and an First Class network with over 200 available message areas called OneNet. skyNet also has access to MSDN (Mac Software Distribution Network), which provides many new files straight from the US.
skyNET Australia is also linked to many other FC bulletin boards around australia, so you can send mail to a friend in another state without making the call, you just have to be a member.
As well as being linked to just other FC bbs's, skyNET is the Australian branch, or node, of BMUG. As such, OneNet, an up and coming Network of FC bbs's aronud the world, is fed to Australia via skyNET. You can read all the OneNet conferences on skyNET, and also available are some of BMUG's local conferences. For more information on One Net, see chapter 4.
The BBS has two phone lines connected to a rotary system. Both lines have 14.4kbps Comstation 3 modems connected to them. This results in very fast file transfers meaning less online time, as long as you have a fast modem to. Of course, these high speed modems are downwardly compatible.
The BBS has three Administrators, Matthew Simpson, Phil Schneider, and Richard Swiderski. If you have any queries or questions, when you next login to skyNET, send a message to any of these administrators. The BBS is located at Matthew Simpsons place, so he will garantee 24hr max reply time. So you only need wait a day for a reply. Both of the other administrators log in daily and so personal messages directed to them will also be replied to within 24 hours.
The information in the following chapters may mean nothing to you, or it may just explain a few things. At any rate, please read the first sections, that is, the section on what the different networks are. The how to use section is there for your use when you need it.
